Steven Young Trust Fund

To Submit a Funding Request
In September of 1989, the citizens of Caledonia came together in order to  raise funds for experimental medication desperately needed for Steven Young, a 14 year old local boy suffering from cancer.

A weekend event including a dance was organized. Unfortunately that weekend, Steven passed away. Steven’s wish before he died was that any money raised should be used to help others in situations such as his.

Every year since, his wish continues to be fulfilled by an eleven member board who receives and reviews requests for financial assistance from local families struggling with chronic illness.

The Steven Young Trust fund continues their efforts in raising funds to benefit these families through a variety of means – primarily by holding their ever-popular Rubber Duck Race in the Grand River, held every year on July 1st in conjunction with Caledonia’s Canada Day celebrations.

How are the funds raised put to use?

  • To assist persons or provide relief to persons with medical expenses or personal costs not covered by OHIP or private insurance for health or medical needs
    • Funds are applied directly to the expense item
    • As a general rule, the beneficiary of the funds shall normally reside in a 25-mile radius of the former Town of Caledonia
  • To assist with the work of other worthy charities

The Steven Young Trust Fund has purchased:
  • Prescription medication that OHIP and Third Party Insurance does not cover
  • A passenger van and SUV for Camp Trillium
  • Medical equipment
  • Parking passes for medical appointments
  • Financial assistance for Lodging (ie Mark Preece Family House)

Private donations are welcomed throughout the year.

The Steven Young Trust Fund is a registered charity.
Receipts will be provided for all private donations.
